Oregon’s Gavvin Surmo and Dixon’s Clark Bonnewell both placed in the top 13 individually Saturday at the Rockford Guilford Sectional, and earned two of the seven individual advancing spots for next weekend’s state tournament at St. Clair Bowl in O’Fallon.

The Newman girls basketball team picked up its second straight Three Rivers East win, defeating St. Bede 46-33 on Thursday night in Peru. Also, the Eastland, Polo and Fulton boys basketball teams all won, as did the Sterling girls bowlers and boys swimmers.

The Newman girls basketball team used a fourth-quarter surge to pick up a Three Rivers East win on Monday night in Sterling, defeating Kewanee 42-37. Also, the Sterling girls defeated Dixon 2,779-2,597 in a dual at Plum Hollow.
