While their official nickname is Golden Warriors, the Sterling football team should maybe change it to Road Warriors. For the fourth time in five weeks, Sterling (4-1, 3-0) will get on the bus – and it’s another long trip, as the Warriors head to Quincy for a Western Big 6 game.
The Ottawa boys golf team won the Class 2A Mendota Regional on Wednesday, while La Salle-Peru and Mendota also advanced as teams to the Sterling Sectional. Dixon, Rock Falls and Sterling advanced individual golfers.
The Newman volleyball team defeated St. Bede in straight sets Tuesday to stay undefeated in the Three Rivers East, while Sterling lost to Moline in a Western Big 6 road match. Erie-Prophetstown's boys and girls cross country teams both took second place at the Three Rivers Meet.
The Dixon volleyball team defeated Sycamore in three sets in a nonconference match Monday at Lancaster Gymnasium, while Amboy and AFC also won nonconference matches. The Newman boys golfers picked up a win at home over Alleman.
When the Golden Warriors struggled Monday night in their nonconference match at home, Washington took advantage. Too many Sterling mistakes led to runs by the Panthers in both sets as Washington won 25-15, 25-13 at Musgrove Fieldhouse.
