Lincoln-Way East senior swimmer Ellie Egan was voted the Herald-News Athlete of the Week after finishing 10th at the state meet in the 100-yard butterfly and 12th in the 200 individual medley. She also helped the Griffins' 400 freestyle relay team place 16th.

The 2023 IHSA Girls Swimming & Diving State Meet will be held Friday and Saturday at FMC Natatorium in Westmont. This year, the Sauk Valley area will be represented by Sterling junior Madison Austin and a quintet from the Byron co-op.
Byron girls swimming won the 12-team field Saturday at the Rockford Jefferson Sectional with a 229 score, Hononegah took second with 199 and Sterling finished third with 181.
West Chicago, which co-ops with Batavia and Geneva, scored 275 points to win Saturday’s St. Charles North Sectional. The host North Stars were second with 256 points. It was the first sectional championship for West Chicago since 1992.
