Dixon junior Brooklyn Arjes is set to compete in singles while junior Rachel Lance and sophomore Jenna Mustapha will compete in doubles at state tennis starting Thursday.

The last two locals competing at state tennis, Dixon's Grace Ferguson and Sterling's Ellie Aitken ended up meeting in consolation play on Thursday. Ferguson came out on top and advanced to Day 2 for the first time in singles.

A trio of local seniors are set for Thursday's state tennis tournament as Dixon's Addison Arjes and Grace Ferguson, and Sterling's Ellie Aitken will compete in singles in Class 1A.

The Newman and Rock Falls volleyball teams won at home, while the Oregon boys soccer team advanced to the Class 1A Regional semifinals with a win on Tuesday.

Arjes went 3-0 for third-place Dixon at the LaSalle-Peru Invite on Sept. 23 and won her match in a Sept. 19 dual meet vs. Princeton. She has been voted the Sauk Valley Media Athlete of the Week by readers and answered some questions.

Sterling's Mason Hubbard, Newman's Logan Palmer and the Fulton boys golf team were among area golfers to qualify for state in sectional golf meets on Monday.

The Dixon Duchesses looked to be in postseason form Thursday afternoon against the Sterling Golden Warriors. With a doubles sweep and a singles split, the Duchesses prevailed 4-1 on Sterling’s senior night.
