The Class 2A second-round playoff game between ground-and-pound offenses from Wilmington and Newman was going to be won in the trenches – and the Wildcats dominated them. Wilmington (11-0) ran for 431 yards in the first half to build a big lead, cruising into the quarterfinals with a 42-7 victory over the Comets (7-4).




With the prevalence of spread offenses and attacking the edge of the defense, Saturday’s Class 2A second-round playoff game between Newman and Wilmington at Roscoe Eades Stadium will certainly be old-school. It’s a game that will be played in a metaphorical phone booth.
