Kane County Board 2022 primary election news, candidate questionnaires and more
Final vote tallies show Barbara Wojnicki, who has represented her district for 24 years, lost the Republican primary by 11 votes to David Young.
Among the incumbents who appeared to lose their primaries – according to unofficial results Tuesday – is Barbara Wojnicki, who sought the GOP nomination to seek a sixth term on the Kane County Board.
Incumbent Kane County Board member Kenneth Shepro, R-Wayne, who lost his GOP primary Tuesday to Bill Roth in unofficial results, blasted his challenger for winning by “a campaign of character assassination” and declared he would run again.
Kane County’s primary election night did not come off without a hitch, as two software programs suddenly didn’t mesh and barely any results were posted before 10 p.m.

Lifelong St. Charles resident Anthony Catella is seeking the Republican nomination for Kane County Board District 13 on the June 28 ballot in a contested primary.
Incumbent Kane County Board member Kenneth Shepro of Wayne is seeking the Republican nomination for District 12 in the June 28 primary.

Asked about the county paying the college tuition of a public employee, Kane County Board candidate Michael Linder wrote, "The full tuition of a degree program for a single employee, which evidently happened, with multiple credit card payments over time, is not acceptable."
Kane County Board District 16 candidate Ted Penesis answered when asked if there is a local crime problem, "The perception that crime is increasing does not match the reality in most of the county, where the overall crime rate has dropped 16 percent over the past three years."

Asked about decreasing local property taxes, Kane County Board candidate Lucio Estrada wrote, "The county would make up for differences by selling county property that is not being used, and by better budgeting and creating more efficiencies." Read the full questionnaire here.
Kane County Board candidate Gary Daugherty was asked about Sheriff Hain's pre-arrest diversions: "So far the program has showed promise. If this program does what it is intended to do that is not only good law- enforcement but it is beneficial in reducing costs to the taxpayers."

Asked about local road and bridge projects to prioritize, Kane County Board candidate Richard Williams wrote, "Improving Route 47 between I-88 and I-90 should be given high priority, as well as various intersections that need to be reworked as the traffic demand has increased."
