Benet’s Molly Sheehan finds unique opportunity, enrolls early at Valparaiso to start college basketball career

With the frustration growing for high school basketball players, Benet’s Molly Sheehan found another option.Sheehan has been idle while Illinois hasn’t allowed high school basketball to be played.So Sheehan, who signed with Division I Valparaiso in November, took advantage of a unique opportunity to graduate high school early and enroll at Valpo.

Hinsdale Central boys swimming coach Bob Barber chose a basic way to describe the mood of his team at Wednesday’s practice.After the Illinois High School Association approved a plan Tuesday to give the green light for winter sports — besides boys and girl basketball — to resume practice and to be played seven days after the first practice, Barber said his swimmers were happy to be back in the pool.“We were blasting music and cranking out yardage,” Barber said. “We were having fun.”

There is more than one way to realize an Olympic dream.Erin Virtue is proof of that.The former St. Francis setter played briefly for the U.S. women’s volleyball national team after starring at Illinois before beginning a coaching career that has taken her to the highest ranks of the game.Virtue is the assistant coach of the women’s national team that will attempt to win its first gold medal at this summer’s Tokyo Olympics.
