Visitors to Starved Rock State Park brave harsh winter weather during Bald Eagle Weekend on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026. Power outages affecting areas along the Illinois waterway forced organizers to relocate programs and shows to the La Salle room at Starved Rock Lodge. The Illinois Waterway Visitor's Center closed due to a lack of power, with its activities moved indoors.

Eagle Watch Weekend events happen at locations throughout the Illinois Valley Saturday, Jan. 24 and Sunday, Jan. 25.

Open Space Gallery in Ottawa will host a Craft & Chill Journaling and Collage event on Jan. 15, as well as an oil painting workshop on Jan. 18.

Camp Aramoni will host the 'New Year, New You' brunch on Sunday, Jan. 11.

After months of renovations, demolition and installation of new fixtures, painting walls and selecting tiles, Kelsey and Dane Stier were ready to welcome their first guests at the renovated Knox Hotel on North Main Street in downtown Princeton.

Starved Rock Lodge will host guided hikes and historic trolley tours Dec. 27-28.

Established in 1936 by Sylvio “Rip” and Emma Gualandri, the establishment in Ladd has been serving chicken, crispies, pickles, fried appetizers, beer and liquor for 89 years.
