LOCAL ROUNDUP: Dixon soccer shuts out Genoa-Kingston

The Dixon girls soccer team built a commanding lead in the the game’s first 20 minutes and rolled to an 8-0 win over Genoa-Kingston in a Big Northern Conference game Tuesday afternoon at Sauk Valley Community College.

Taylor Harrison scored four goals and dished an assist, and Abby Goff added two goals and an assist for the Duchesses (5-1), who led 7-0 just 20 minutes in. Emma Jones and Ashley Crawford also scored goals, while Emma Evans dished a pair of assists. Paige Stees, Jacqueline Yeager and Madison Cumberland each chipped in an assist.

Rockford Lutheran 1, Oregon 0: The Hawks dropped a home Big Northern Conference game.

Taylor Rufer made 11 saves.

BASEBALL

Geneseo 12, Sterling 2, 5 inn.: The Golden Warriors were on the wrong end of a 10-run bottom of the fourth in a loss to the Maple Leafs.

Dale Guerreri and Daylen Stage had hits for Sterling. Guerreri drove in a run.

Rockford Christian 6, Rock Falls 0: The Rockets couldn’t cross the plate in a Big Northern loss in Rockford.

Luke Akerman (0-3) took the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) and eight hits while striking out six. Dillon Schueler allowed an unearned run in an inning of work, striking out two and walking one.

Princeton 2, Erie-Prophetstown 0: The Panthers fell to the Tigers after allowing a run in the bottom of the first and another in the bottom of the fourth.

Bryce Rosenow, Jamie Miner, Erik Daubman and Jake Jensen each had hits for E-P.

Miner pitched five innings, allowing two runs, both earned, on four hits and striking out seven. Kolby Franks stuck out two in an inning of relief.

Milledgeville 11, Polo 8: The Missiles scored four runs in the bottom of the first and three more in the second in a win over Polo.

Down 11-3 after four innings, the Marcos scored two in the fifth and three in the seventh, but could not complete the comeback.

Izaac Toms-Smith and Ashton Nobis each had three hits for Milledgeville. Connor Nye had three RBIs. Noah Newstrand pitched 4 1/3 innings for Milledgeville, allowing five runs, four of them earned, on three hits and striking out seven.

Tyler Merdian had four RBIs for Polo. Blake Diehl drove in three. Gavin Zell allowed 11 runs, eight earned, on 10 hits for the Marcos and struck out five.

Forreston 17, Amboy 1, 5 inn.: The Clippers scored a run in the bottom of the first, but the Cardinals were able to put together several big innings in the NUIC matchup.

Ian Eller got a hit and scored a run for Amboy. Brady Jones had a pair of hits.

Eastland 13, AFC 3, 5 inn.: The Cougars scored five runs in the third inning, then put up three in the fourth and four in the fifth to beat the Raiders.

AFC’s runs all came in the top of the fifth.

Drew Burkholder struck out eight of the first nine batters he saw before leaving the game in the fourth. A one-out single by Mason Munroe off Carson Witt in the fifth broke up the bid for a combined no-hitter. Munroe later scored, and Evan Kopp drove in two more runs.

Burkholder had a pair of singles and drew a bases-loaded walk to collect three RBIs. Wyatt Baber and Jaxon Sturtevant had two RBIs.

SOFTBALL

Sterling 6, Geneseo 2: The Golden Warriors turned on the offense in the final two innings to beat the Maple Leafs, scoring four in the top of the sixth and two more in the top of the seventh.

Amaiya Hernandez and Elizabeth Palumbo each hit home runs, with Hernandez driving in three in her 3-for-4 day at the plate.

Palumbo struck out 12 in her complete-game victory, allowing two runs, both earned, on five hits.

Oregon 3, Winnebago 1: The Hawks topped Winnebago as Mia Trampel pitched seven innings.

Ella Martin hit a home run and drove in two.

Forreston 10, Amboy 0: The Cardinals’ Kara Erdmann pitched a no-hitter and struck out 14 in the win over the Clippers.

Rylee Broshous was 4-for-5 at the plate for Forreston with a double, a triple and three RBIs.

Hannah Blanton pitched for Amboy, allowing 10 runs on 10 hits and striking out four.

Princeton 5, Erie-Prophetstown 0: Katie Bates pitched a four-hit shutout, striking out nine batters with no walks.

McKenzie Hecht led the Tigresses at the plate with two hits, including a triple and three RBIs.

Sydney Schwartz had two hits for E-P.

Eastland 7, AFC 0: The Cougars pitched a combined no-hitter in Lanark.

Addison Burkholder pitched four innings and allowed a walk, striking out five. Jenica Stoner pitched two innings, and Shyanna Ditzler stuck out two in the seventh.

Jessica Milligan pitched for the Raiders, striking out eight and allowing seven runs on six hits.

Chloe Sweitzer drove in two runs for Eastland. Jenna Green had two hits.

TENNIS

Moline 5, Sterling 4: The Golden Warriors fell to Moline in the road.

Kayden Loos and Carter Ryan picked up singles wins for Sterling, Loos winning 7-6 (4), 1-6, 1-6 at No. 4, and Ryan winning 6-4, 2-6, 10-6 at No. 6.

In doubles play, Luke Valentino and Connor Pham won 7-6 (3), 1-6, 10-6 at No. 1 doubles. Ryan and Brecken Peterson won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.

Dixon 9, Rochelle 0: The Dukes came away with the sweep of the Hubs, losing a total of 12 games and not dropping a single set.

Lucas Healy at No. 1 singles, Owen Grot at No. 4 singles and the No. 2 doubles pair of Healy and Luke Juckel won 6-0, 6-0.

Logan Moeller won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, Leith Elbzour won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Juckel won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Alex Ullrich won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.

Moeller and Elbzour picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles. Ullrich and Grot won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 doubles.

GIRLS TRACK & FIELD

Winnebago 88.5, Bureau Valley 54, Rock Falls 33.5: The Indians cruised to a triangular win over the Storm and the Rockets.

Tayli Hultin of Rock Falls won the 1600 in 6:10.29. Carli Kobbeman won the long jump, leaping 4.40 meters. Savannah Bufford went 8.50 meters in the triple jump.

The Storm’s Allison Larkin won the 100 in 14.50. Ashley Nordstrom won the 300 hurdles in 1:01.28. Brooke York won the shot put with a throw of 9.31 meters.

Milledgevile 2nd, Amboy 3rd in Pecatonica: Karlie Krogman was a double-winner for the Missiles, and freshman Elly Jones won four events for the Clippers in a six-team meet.

Galena won with 204 points, followed by Milledgeville-Eastland (84) and Amboy (73).

Krogman won the shot put (11.60 meters) and the discus (31.86 meters) to lead the Missiles.

Jones won the 100 hurdles (16.49 seconds), the 300 hurdles (49.25), the long jump (4.67 meters) and the triple jump (10.29 meters) for the Clippers. Lauren Althaus added a win in the 800 (2:51.19).

BOYS TRACK & FIELD

Rock Falls 70, Winnebago 70, Bureau Valley 33: The Rockets and Winnebago raced to a tie in a triangular.

Rock Falls got a win in the 100 from Matthew McGrady in 12.42 seconds. Booker Cross won the 400 in 57.80. Matthew Marcum won the 110 hurdles in 17.26 and the 300 hurdles in 42.05.

Ben Blackburn won the shot put with a throw of 13.73 meters. Baraka Boards won the long jump, clearing 5.37 meters. Cross won the triple jump with a leap of 11.71 meters.

Bureau Valley’s Elijah House swept the distance events, taking the 800 in 2:18.83, the 1600 in 5:25.17 and the 3200 in 11:31.82.

Amboy 4th at Pecatonica: Led by double-winner Brock Loftus, the Clippers scored 78 points to finish behind Durand-Pecatonica (137), Galena (127) and Dakota (104) in a seven-team meet. Milledgeville-Eastland took sixth (32).

Loftus won the 1,600 (4:56.93) and 3,200 (10:41.22), and teammate Darrin Yocum won the 400 (55.28 seconds).

The Missiles’ top finish was a second place from Kolton Wilk in the long jump (5.53 meters).

WRESTLING

Oregon 49, Rock Falls 12: The Hawks won three of the five contested bouts in a Big Northern Conference dual at Tabor Gym.

Jackson Glendenning won a 12-0 major decision at 138 pounds, Seth Stevens won a 4-2 decision at 145, and Adam Glendenning won by pin in 1:25 at 220 for Oregon, which also received six forfeits.

Rock Falls’ wins came from a pair of pins. Ryan McCord won in 3:00 at 170, and Dylan Williamson won in 38 seconds at 195.

COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL

Brown earns league honor at McPherson: Former Newman volleyball standout Aidan Brown was recently named the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and an all-conference first-teamer for McPherson College.

Brown, a 2020 Newman graduate, played every rotation during McPherson’s split season, and was named KCAC Attacker of the Week six times. The Bulldogs went 23-8 to finish second in the league, and also made an appearance in the NAIA national tournament.

Brown was also named to the AVCA Regional first team and was an honorable mention All-American selection. She was voted as McPherson College Rookie of the Year.
