A few hundred people attended the fifth annual Mad Hatter Ball on Friday Nov. 19, 2021, at the Auditorium Ballroom in downtown La Salle. Student honorees representing La Salle, Bureau and Putnam counties performed and presented their work. “The Mad Hatter Ball is the regional equivalent of a state championship of the arts, where topnotch local talent is honored. Food and prizes and music and fun filled up the evening,” said Julia Messina, executive director of NCI ARTworks. “This event showcases local student performers in all of the arts: visual, music, performing, literary, etc.”

Natures greatest show has returned to Starved Rock and Matthiessen state parks. The fall colors are a couple weeks late because of earlier drought conditions and warmer weather this autumn season. Mother Nature has graced the area with millions of trees bursting with color. The colors are expected to last through this weekend before the leaves fall.
