A few hundred people attended the fifth annual Mad Hatter Ball on Friday Nov. 19, 2021, at the Auditorium Ballroom in downtown La Salle. Student honorees representing La Salle, Bureau and Putnam counties performed and presented their work. “The Mad Hatter Ball is the regional equivalent of a state championship of the arts, where topnotch local talent is honored. Food and prizes and music and fun filled up the evening,” said Julia Messina, executive director of NCI ARTworks. “This event showcases local student performers in all of the arts: visual, music, performing, literary, etc.”
Natures greatest show has returned to Starved Rock and Matthiessen state parks. The fall colors are a couple weeks late because of earlier drought conditions and warmer weather this autumn season. Mother Nature has graced the area with millions of trees bursting with color. The colors are expected to last through this weekend before the leaves fall. Grab your jacket or favorite sweatshirt and check out the annual blaze of glory.
The American Countess paddle steamer passes by Henry on Saturday. The boat is making its way up the Illinois River on a nine-day cruise that departed Memphis, Tenn. and will disembark Monday in Ottawa. Passengers have the choice to “hop on and hop off” throughout the downtown area to experience local shopping, dining and sightseeing.
Firefighters from four counties were dispatched to Marquis Energy for a fire around 5:45 a.m. on Wednesday Sept. 1, 2021. The fire is located inside a pipe in the roof of a dryer building. The pipe is hard to access therefore causing a harder time for firefighters to extinguish.
Around 30 kayakers participated in the inaugural Lake Kayak/Canoe/Boat Float trip to Henry on Saturday Aug. 7, 2021. Kayakers departed the Walnut Grove Resort shoreline of Senachwine Lake and paddled to Henry. Around 30 people participated in the inaugural three-mile trip. Afterword’s, boaters had a cookout in Walnut Grove and a fun foam party for the kids.
