If unofficial results hold from the April 1 election, La Salle, Streator, Princeton and Spring Valley figure to have some new faces on their city councils.

Three incumbents and a former council member hold leads after all precincts counted Tuesday for La Salle City Council.

This spring, La Salle and Bureau county voters get to decide who will make the important decisions regarding their communities, schools, townships, fire departments, parks and libraries.

As each open alderman seat in La Salle is contested, the April 1 election is the most contested.

Incumbent Tom Ptak will face off resident Dawn Hicks for the 2nd Ward aldermanic seat in La Salle.

John “Doc’” Lavieri on the greatest issue facing La Salle: Like most cities, it’s infrastructure and financing maintenance. We’re well aware what’s needed but cost and often grants available dictate the priorities

Tom Ptak: Our biggest issue in LaSalle is our infrastructure. We have been trying to make improvements without borrowing money, which means it will take longer to complete the task.

Nicole Girton: I think that we should really look into the I80/I39 Corridor. Time to grow La Salle and utilize the space we have

Brianne Hicks: One of the most significant challenges facing La Salle at this moment is the lack of preparedness

The city needs to fix the sewer systems because no one likes shopping or eating downtown when is smells like sewage. Secondly, we need the mayor and aldermen to take better care of all the businesses that are in La Salle.

What ideas do you have to grow La Salle? Our main focus should be to continue attracting new businesses and entrepreneurs to support the development of our thriving downtown district and Route 6 corridor—all while staying within budget
