Sterling junior Madison Austin broke her own school record in the 100-yard freestyle Friday at the IHSA Girls Swimming and Diving State meet at FMC Natatorium in Westmont.

The 2023 IHSA Girls Swimming & Diving State Meet will be held Friday and Saturday at FMC Natatorium in Westmont. This year, the Sauk Valley area will be represented by Sterling junior Madison Austin and a quintet from the Byron co-op.

Byron girls swimming won the 12-team field Saturday at the Rockford Jefferson Sectional with a 229 score, Hononegah took second with 199 and Sterling finished third with 181.

The Sterling boys cross country team and Dale Johnson won Class 2A Galesburg Regional titles, Polo volleyball took 2nd at the AFC Tournament and the Sterling boys soccer season ended in a regional championship loss to Dunlap. Plus more local results in Saturday's roundup.

The Rock Falls and Polo volleyball teams won on the road, while the Dixon girls tennis team and Sterling swimming & diving team won at home on Tuesday.

The Fulton volleyball team defeated Milledgeville on Monday, while the Byron co-op swimming & diving team finished first and the Sterling co-op finished second at the 11-team Freeport Invite on Saturday.

The Rock Falls and Newman volleyball teams won at home, while the Dixon girls tennis and Sterling girls swimming & diving teams won on the road on Tuesday.

The Newman volleyball team defeated Mendota, the Dixon girls tennis team topped Mendota, and the Rock Falls boys golf team prevailed against Genoa-Kingston on Tuesday.

The Newman volleyball and boys golf teams won, while the Sterling boys and girls golf, girls tennis and girls swimming & diving teams also prevailed on Tuesday.

Sterling's Dale Johnson was the boys champion at the Galesburg Cross Country Invite, while the Rock Falls volleyball team finished second and Newman took third at the Rock Falls Rocket Invite on Saturday.

Newman Central Catholic High School has revealed the individuals and teams who are part of the class of 2023 to be inducted into the athletics Hall of Fame in Sept. 2.
