The Rochelle Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, is continuing its efforts to honor local veterans through the Wreaths Across America program.

Of all the great leaders of the early history of the Dixon area, the name of Leonard Andrus belongs near the very top. Like “Father” John Dixon’s pivotal relationship with Dixon, Andrus was the founder of Grand Detour, its first ferry operator and its first stagecoach operator.

The Dixon Police Department made no DUI arrests during the Thanksgiving holiday thanks to its program partnering with local cab companies that gave people rides.

Dixon Fire Department and Dixon Rural Fire Department are spreading fire awareness with the annual “Keep the Wreath Red” Campaign. The intent of the red-lighted Christmas wreaths is to bring awareness of the effects of holiday-related fires and the importance of being fire safe.
