After losing the DuKane Conference indoor girls track and field title in heartbreaking fashion, St. Charles North used five victories on the day to win its first conference title in program history.

Julianna Kouba drove in the game-winning RBI in the top of the seventh and Paige Murray struck out 10 batters to help St. Charles North secure a 6-4 win over Lake Park.

Last year’s success on the mound hasn’t yet been matched enough for Lake Park lefthander Lewis Slade this spring, but Geneva coach Brad Wendell was plenty impressed Wednesday. Slade came within one out of a complete game in the rubber match of an early DuKane Conference series.

Lake Park exploded for 12 runs in the top of the fourth inning to overwhelm Batavia 17-0 in DuKane Conference baseball action on Tuesday in a four-inning game.
