Freeport attorney seeks judgeship in 15th Judicial Circuit

Peter J. McClanathan, a Freeport attorney and longtime Republican, is running for circuit judge in the 15th Judicial Circuit, which is comprised of Carroll, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle, and Stephenson counties.

He is seeking the seat based in Stephenson County now held by Judge Michael Bald, who is retiring November.

The Freeport native was with the Stephenson County State’s Attorney’s Office for 10 years, prosecuting a variety of drug, domestic violence, sex offenses, and murder cases.

He now is a partner at Fishburn Whiton Thruman, where he primarily practices civil and municipal government law.

McClanathan also was a Freeport alderman for six years, and was a member of the Stephenson County Republican Central Committee for more than 10 years.

McClanathan is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the Stephenson County Bar Association. He is a former member of the Norman C. Sleezer Youth Board and is an active member of Park Hills Evangelical Free Church. He land his wife, Tiffany, have four children.

The primary is June 28.
