SVM area roundup: Newman clinches conference title; Rock Falls, Oregon win BNC matches on the road

The Newman volleyball team clinched the Three Rivers East title on Wednesday night, cruising past Hall 25-13, 25-7 in Spring Valley.

Jess Johns had 11 kills, five digs, a block and an ace, and Kennedy Rowzee slammed eight kills for the Comets (19-4-1, 11-0 TRAC East). Katie Grennan had 14 assists, five digs and four aces, Sophia Ely added three kills and a block, and Addison Foster had 10 digs, four assists and two kills. Sam Ackman finished with seven digs and five aces, and Molly Olson chipped in four assists and three digs for Newman.

Rock Falls def. Rockford Christian 25-17, 25-16: The Rockets kept pace in the Big Northern Conference race, downing the Royal Lions in Rockford.

Nicolette Udell spiked eight kills, and Claire Bickett and Emily Lego added seven kills apiece; Lego also stuffed three blocks for Rock Falls (24-2, 5-1 BNC). Denali Stonitsch finished with 13 assists and 11 digs, Carli Kobbeman also had 11 digs, and Taylor Reyna slammed four kills.

Oregon def. Stillman Valley 25-22, 25-17: The Hawks topped the Cardinals in straight sets in a Big Northern Conference match on the road.

Leaders for Oregon (11-5, 5- BNC) were Ava Wight with 11 digs, three kills and two aces, Kenna Wubbena with six kills, five digs, one ace and one block and Liz Mois with five kills and four digs.

College volleyball

Carl Sandburg def. Sauk Valley 25-22, 25-19, 25-17: The Skyhawks suffered their first Arrowhead Conference loss in a makeup match in Galesburg.

Nicole Boelens had nine kills and 16 digs to lead Sauk (15-12, 5-1), while Tiana Tichler and Jaelyn Fitzgerald each spiked five kills, and Maya Gartin and Mckenzie Hecht both added four kills. Addyson Kinn led the way with 17 digs, Gabby Jones dished 13 assists, and Reagan Oster added 12 assists.
