Led by the grandson of the cross country meet’s honoree, Downers Grove North repeated as the winner of the Larry Eddington Invitational boys race Saturday at Kaneland High School.

York senior and Vanderbilt recruit Bria Bennis, who took third place at state and led the Dukes to second place as a team with their best team score ever in Peoria, is the 2022 Suburban Life Girls Cross Country Athlete of the Year.

Glenbard North's Grace Schager ran away from the pack to win the Class 3A girls race, Hinsdale Central's Aden Bandukwala won the Class 3A boys in a photo finish, while in team races Riverside-Brookfield won the Class 2A boys and Hinsdale Central boys and York girls were second.

Huntley's Breanna and Brittney Burak and Molly Allen led the Red Raiders to the Class 3A Lake Park Cross Country Sectional championship, the first in school history. In the boys race, DeKalb’s Riley Newport took the title in 14:50.1.

Individual race winner Bria Bennis and the No. 1-ranked York girls cross country team ran away with the Class 3A Waubonsie Valley Sectional title, while Downers Grove North edged the No. 1-ranked Hinsdale Central boys by three points for the boys team title.
