The National Weather Service has issued a severe storm warning for northern Grundy County and the southern half of Kendall County, set to expire at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday.

A tornado watch means weather conditions in the area could result in tornadoes.

Parts of northern Illinois now face a heightened risk of dangerous severe weather Tuesday afternoon and evening, with forecasters warning that strong to intense tornadoes may be possible.

The Grundy County Sheriff's Office said it arrested Gabriel Rivero, 41, Stickney, in relation to a pedestrian getting struck by a vehicle in the Nettle Creek Subdivision.

The Morris Police Department announced Tuesday that Marshall Szpara, 22, of Seneca, has been charged with first degree murder and other charges in relation to a shooting early Saturday morning.

The U.S. Forest Service did not say when the controlled burns would start. County emergency management officials will be notified when burning begins.

The work will be carried out in several stages but initially will require lane closures in both directions of Chicago Street between McDonough Street and Doris Avenue, according to IDOT.
