St. Charles nail spa to open doors

ST. CHARLES – The owner of a new nail spa in St. Charles doesn't want people peering in their windows. In fact, she tinted the windows black.

The design choice is all about the mood Sunny Splittgerber wants to create with Boudoir Nail Spa, 111 S. First St.

Because boudoir is a French word meaning bedroom, Splittgerber designed her spa with the intent of giving visitors a private, relaxing atmosphere in which they can forget about the outside world.

Though open since May 4, the spa celebrated its grand opening Wednesday.

The First Street Redevelopment project has been open for about two years. All but one space is booked on the building's first floor, and about 80 percent of the upstairs commercial space is leased, Mayor Donald DeWitte said. He said the occupancy rate speaks to the quality of the development and a demand for a new St. Charles.

"Contrary to the economy experts in this community, another business opening on the First Street Redevelopment project shows this project is alive and well," DeWitte said.

Boudoir Nail Spa is Splittgerber's first business venture and 18 months in the making, her husband, Rick Splittgerber, said as his wife was busy greeting guests. He said she aims to provide the city with a first-class nail salon.

The spa provides manicures and pedicures for men and women.

Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday; 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday; 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday. It is closed Sunday.

Walk-ins are welcomed but determined by the number of appointments.
