Letter: Tampico Area Historical Society pays tribute to Denise McLoughlin

Editor’s note: Denise Wranik McLoughlin, who was very involved with the Tampico Area Historical Society and other community organizations, died Dec. 29, 2020. She was 70.

To the editor:

Denise and Tim McLoughlin moved to Tampico over 20 years ago. As soon as they were settled, they became very involved with the community.

Denise was always willing to find ways to help, by being involved with the Tampico Are Long Range Planning Committee. She was very instrumental in establishing the Tampico Area Historical Society website. Her knowledge and willingness to learn the history of the local area has been invaluable in filling the pages of the Historical Society’s website. She worked very hard with the Tampico Historical Preservation Advisory Committee. This group was responsible for the bronze plaques put on all 13 of the original buildings on Main Street.

Her interest in genealogy has brought inquiries from all over the world to the website. There are many acknowledgements from people she was able to help with their ancestry. She had posted on her Facebook page “I like to party, and by party, I mean genealogy.”

Denise was also the historian for First United Methodist Church of Tampico. She worked with the Ronald Reagan Birthplace Museum with any and all items regarding the internet.

In spite of her many physical ailments over the years, she was always ready and willing to help anyone with their questions or activities.

The Tampico Area Historical Society has lost a very dear friend.
