LOCAL ROUNDUP: Sauk tennis players take court at nationals

The Sauk Valley Community College womens tennis team scored three points to take 26th place at the NJCAA National Championships in Mesa, Arizona.

The doubles team of Meghan VanBuren and Alyssa Marquez reached the consolation semifinal of the tournament. Marquez also reached the consolation semifinal in her singles bracket.

Tyler Junior College scored 49 points to win the national championship.


SOFTBALL

Rock Falls 7, Erie-Prophetstown 6: The Rockets scored four runs in the top of the fifth and held off a late Panthers rally for a nonconference win.

Rylee Johnson and Abby Whiles each drove in two runs, with Johnson connecting on a triple for the Rockets.

Nicolette Udell pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed six runs, five earned on seven hits.

Addy Scott homered and drove in three runs for the Panthers. Mya Jones, Aylah Jones and Jayden Johnson each hit doubles.

Corrie Remley struck out three in the circle for Erie-Prophetstown while Aylah Jones came on to work the final 2 2/3 innings and struck out five.

Fulton 11, Bureau Valley 1: Elizabeth Fish had four hits, including a pair of home runs and a double, in the Steamers’ win over the Storm.

Fish also pitched five innings for the win, striking out four.

Tyra Sayler took the loss in the circle for Bureau Valley.

Oregon 18, Pecatonica 5: The Hawks offense got hot and stayed hot for a road nonconference win.

Liz Mois had a home run as part of her five-hit evening. Ella Martin added a three-run home run of her own. Bella Koertner and Abigail Rogers each added three hits.

Lena Trampel struck out six for the win.

Eastland 9, Warren-Stockton 5: The Cougars scored five runs in the top of the first and added runs in the fourth and fifth before scoring twice in the seventh.

Gracie Steidinger had three hits. Karlie Krogman homered and drove in three runs. Chloe Sweitzer added two RBIs. Addison Burkholder was 2-for-4 with a double and drove in two.

Burkholder pitched four innings and struck out four, allowing a run on two hits. Jenica Stoner pitched three innings and allowed four runs on five hits, striking out three.

GIRLS TRACK & FIELD

Dixon 80, Byron 49: The Duchesses raced to a win over the Tigers.

Sydney Hills won the 100 in 14.28 seconds and the 200 in 29.98. Leah Kuehl won the 400 in 1:13.82. Taylor Hills won the 800 in 2:38.19.

Jade Miller won the 1600 in 5:56.00. Alivia Rubright won the 100 hurdles in 20.09. Makenzie Welch won the shot put, throwing 10.06 meters and the discus with a throw of 30.20 m. Nora Fordham cleared 1.32 m. to win the high jump. Katie Shafer took first place in the triple jump with a leap of 9.08 m.

Oregon 126.5, Amboy 51.5, North Boone 15: The Hawks raced by the Clippers and Vikings at home.

Oregon got a sprint win from Lydia Cermak in the 100 in 13.86 seconds. Cassandra Nyderek won the 400 in 1:22.70.

The Hawks’ Jennica Ciesiel won the 3200 in 14:29.74. Sophia Stender cleared 2.133 meters to win the pole vault. Brenna Noon had a toss of 35.58 meters to win the discus and 12.49 M. to win the shot put.

Amboy’s Elly Jones leapt to wins in the long jump (4.87 m.), triple jump (10.16 m.) and 300 hurdles (49.61). Lauren Althaus won the 200 in 28.71.

BOYS TRACK & FIELD

Dixon 82, Byron 51: The Dukes picked up a win over Byron.

Ethan Fox won the 100 in 12.03 seconds. Jacob Gusse won the 200 in 24.33 and leapt 12.34 meters to win the triple jump. Jackson Ortgiesen won the 400 in 56.95. Jack Johnson won the 800 in 2:20.73. Isiah Kuehl won the 1600 in 5:25.98. Skylar Connolly won the 300 hurdles in 47.48 and cleared 2.90 meters to win the pole vault.

Dre Jackson threw 13.43 meters to win the shot put. Michael Ross went 5.08 m. in he long jump.

Oregon 120, Amboy 75, North Boone 44: The Hawks cruised to a win at Landers-Loomis Field.

Oregon’s Austin Ebert won the 110 hurdles in 17.86 seconds. Isaac Reber won the 100 in 12.37. Ryan Hussung won the 800 in 2:20.41. Daniel Dominguez won the shot put with a throw of 12.80 meters. Anthony Bell cleared 1.57 m. to win the high jump and Nathaniel Schone cleared 3.505 m. to win the pole vault.

Amboy got a discus win from Ian Sundberg, throwing 35.74 m. Brock Loftus won the 3200 in 10:27.54 and the 1600 in 4:54.21. Darrin Yocum picked up a win in the 400 with a time of 1:00.24. Ben Henrikson won the 200 in 26.06.

WRESTLING

Fulton sweeps Winnebago, Rockford East: The Steamers took a pair of matches, picking up a 28-21 win over Winnebago and a 33-24 win over Rockford East.

Broden VenHuizen (126), Ben Fosdick (138), Noah Ford (145), Zane Pannell (182) and Nate Portz (285) picked up wins for Fulton against East.

Pannell and Ethan Rash (195) won contested matches against the Indians.
