Milledgeville, Eastland boys claim NUIC South wins; Dixon wrestlers top Princeton; Sterling boys bowlers roll past Sycamore

The Dixon girls basketball team hit the road Thursday night and picked up a 40-33 win over Lena-Winslow to improve to 18-3 on the season.

The Duchesses took control in the third quarter, outscoring the Panthers 15-8 to turn a 15-15 halftime tie into a 30-23 lead. Le-Win led 11-9 after the first quarter.

Harvest Day had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds for Dixon, while Sam Tourtillott added nine points and six assists. Elle Jarrett scored seven points and grabbed five rebounds in her first game since the 2019-20 season season after battling injuries all last year. Rylee Pfoutz, Kait Knipple and Abby Knipple each hit a 3-pointer for the Duchesses, and Jessie Pitman chipped in two points, five rebounds and four blocks.

Kalli Humphrey scored 17 points to lead Le-Win.

Stillman Valley 51, Oregon 21: The Hawks trailed 30-15 by halftime, then were outscored 16-4 in the fourth quarter of a Big Northern Conference road loss.

Katelyn Bowers had 10 points to pace Oregon, Mariah Drake scored seven, and Liz Mois finished with four.

Taylor Davidson hit three 3-pointers and led Stillman with 21 points, Taylor Davis added nine points, Jenna Shelburne scored seven, and Maddy McCammond chipped in six.

Boys basketball

Milledgeville 57, AFC 35: The Missiles led 17-9 after one quarter, 31-20 by halftime, and 48-30 through three periods in an NUIC South win in Ashton.

Kieren Harris poured in 26 points for Milledgeville, while Connor Nye scored 12 and Bryce Aude added 11.

Griffin Bushman had 12 points and Lane Koning scored 11 for the Raiders, who also got eight points from Carson Rueff.

Eastland 68, Polo 28: The Cougars rolled past the Marcos in an NUIC South contest in Lanark.

Faith Christian 62, Fulton Unity 34: The Falcons soared past the Knights on the wings of a balanced attack featuring four double-figure scorers.

Isaiah Schuler had 13 points and two steals, and Evan Fassler added 12 points, seven rebounds and two steals for Faith Christian. Levi Schuler finished with 10 points, six rebounds and four assists, and Micah Wehler chipped in 10 points and four rebounds. Brendan Peterson added four points, 12 rebounds and two blocks.

Wrestling

Dixon 54, Princeton 24: The Dukes won seven of the 11 contested bouts in a dual win on the road.

Ayden Rowley (113 pounds), Jayce Kastner (152), Owen Brooks (160), Steven Kitzman (170), and Justin Dallas (220) all won by pin for Dixon, while Cade Hey (138) won a 7-0 decision, and Gavin McAlister (285) won a 1-0 decision. The Dukes also received three forfeits.

Polo 2-1 in Winnebago: The Marcos defeated Amboy 51-18 and host Winnebago 39-31, but fell 47-16 to Lena-Winslow/Stockton in a four-team meet.

Against Amboy, Polo got pins from Wyatt Doty (132 pounds), Dominic Gabbard (145), Braydon Altherr (152), Maddux Hayden (195) and Blake Diehl (220). Wyatt Queckboerner got the only win in a contested bout against Winnebago, winning a decision at 182; the Marcos received six forfeits. Gage Lagee (126) and Doty (132) had pins against the PantherHawks, and Altherr (152) added a major decision.

Amboy got pins from Levi Near (120), Josh McKendry (126) and Lucas Blanton (160) in the dual against Polo.

Boys bowling

Sterling 3,532, Sycamore 3,157: The Golden Warriors racked up nine 200 games among their six bowlers to defeat the Spartans at Blackhawk Lanes.

Andrew Doughty led the way with a 640 series, opening with a 225 game and closing with a 220. Tristan Oelrichs was close behind with a 634 series, with games of 227, 204 and 203. Ethan Melcher had a 602 series with a 213 second game, and Dylan Doss closed his 592 series with a 215 game. Mikah Hernandez finished his 542 series with a 202 game, and Brenden Stanley opened his 522 series with a 200 game.

Tommy Bebolett led Sycamore with a 653 series that featured games of 208, 245 and 200, and Rylan Boyles had a 641 series that included a second-game 279.

Girls bowling

Geneseo 2,918, Sterling 2,486: The Golden Warriors lost a Western Big 6 dual on the road, dropping all three games.

Katelynn Garcia led Sterling with a 505 series, while Hannah Conderman rolled a 489 series and a team-high 189 game. Brendy Gatica had a 435 series, Emily Doss added a 433, and Loralei Michels (352) and Kailynn Wickham (272) rounded out the Warriors’ lineup.

Madison Holevoet opened her 614 series with a 234 game to lead the Maple Leafs, and Allyson Ford added a 521 series.
