The Woodlawn Arts Academy summer art exhibit, "Beyond Unicorns and Rainbows: Meeting the Needs of the LGBTQ+ Community," is a collaboration with PFLAG Sauk Valley, "an organization that envisions a world where diversity is celebrated and all people are respected, valued, and affirmed, inclusive of their sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression." Amboy artist Shirley Guay (left) judged the nearly 50 submissions, and 18-year-old West Oiler-Frederick's entry, Mortal, won in the teen category. Oiler-Frederick is a Rock Falls artist. The show runs through Aug. 13 at the academy at 3807 Woodlawn Road in Sterling. Admission is free.
