Sycamore School District 427 will soon have a new superintendent after a unanimous school board vote Tuesday night.

On Monday, a reheat coil in an office area at Traughber Junior High in Oswego burst, leading to significant water accumulation in carpeted areas.

Much has been in the news lately about “exploding trees”, caused by the extreme cold temperatures. But is this something to be worried about?

The dangerous weather conditions will continue Monday with wind chills falling into the 15 to 25 below range, the National Weather Service said.

Voters will decide on the March 17 primary ballot whether to grant the district's request for issuing $275 million in bonds to build new schools and expanded facilities to meet the demands of the district’s growing population.

All facilities are closed on virtual service days. Joliet Junior College operates 2 campuses in Joliet, one in Romeoville, a center in Morris and the agricultural education center on Laraway Road.

A fire alarm was activated around 10:38 a.m. at Yorkville Middle School triggered by the steam from the ruptured pipe. Students evacuated the building immediately, according to Yorkville School District 115.

The project should be substantially completed by Feb. 5, architect Alex Lopez from Performance Services told Oswego School Board members during their Jan. 12 board meeting.
