Southwest Prairie Conference

Plainfield East (1-1) at Oswego East (2-0)

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Last matchup: Oswego East 19, Plainfield East 0 (2018)

About the Bengals: A nice bounce back for Plainfield East, particularly on defense, in its win over Shepard in Week 2. Continued progression for Bengals QB Quinn Callaghan would certainly help things, while the defense should get a much bigger challenge this week to see how much progress has truly been made.

About the Wolves: Oswego East’s confidence level has to be high after navigating a difficult nonconference schedule with a pair of wins over quality programs. The Wolves’ offense appeared to make strides in a 28-14 win over Lincoln-Way West, with Tre Jones throwing three TD passes to Ty Carlson. Jones is a big-play threat with both his arm and legs. JaMarcus Garrett had a pick-six last week for the Oswego East defense, which is led by Illinois recruit Jared Badie.

FND Pick: Oswego East.

Plainfield South (1-1) at Yorkville (1-1)

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Last matchup: First known meeting

About the Cougars: Plainfield South picked up a solid bounce-back win last Friday, beating DeKalb 27-17. Johnny Bailey had two pick-sixes. Brian Stanton ran for 82 yards and two TDs. The Cougars returned just three starters on defense this spring, a side of the ball that’s usually a team strength.

About the Foxes: The Foxes had a second quarter last Friday they’d just soon forget, giving up 21 unanswered points in a game Yorkville eventually lost 28-13. Playing on their home field for the first time should provide some positive energy. Nate Kraus has lived up to billing as a two-way threat with 144 yards and two TDs passing and 125 yards and a TD on the ground. Junior linemen Jake Davies and Andrew Zook are anchors defensively.

FND Pick: Yorkville
