Face time with Catrinne Stablein

St. Charles Township resident Catrinne Stablein, 42, was visiting St. Charles East High School on behalf of a friend's daughter participating in a culinary cooking competition. She answered nine questions from the Kane County Chronicle's Brenda Schory.

Where did you grow up? Gothenburg, Sweden.

Pets? A cat named Rex and a hamster named Snowflake.

Who would play you in the movie of your life? Meryl Streep.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a pediatrician, but I became a caterer and a flight attendant, and now I'm a stay-at-home mom.

Book you'd recommend? "Jesus Calling" by Sarah Young.

Favorite charity? Haiti relief through my church, Christ Community Church.

Hobbies? I love to paint landscapes in oil, ice skating, wind surfing and lots of winter sports growing up in Sweden.

Favorite local restaurant? Bien Trucha in Geneva.

What is an interesting factoid about yourself? I lived in Sweden for the first 20 years of my life. Then I went to Geneva, Switzerland for a year when I was an au pair, and then after high school I bought a one-way ticket to the U.S. I started in Texas, went to the Carolinas, got married, moved to Singapore for seven years as newlyweds, had my babies there and now have been in St. Charles for the last two and a half years.
