Two hospitals in Will County were among just over 900 across the country to receive a top safety grade from the Leapfrog Group.
Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox and AMITA Health Adventist Medical Center Bolingbrook both earned a grade of “A” in the Leapfrog Group’s biannual safety grade study, according to a news release.
The organization assigns grades based on the hospitals’ performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, infections and other patient harm. Silver Cross and Adventist were among 907 hospitals nationwide to earn the top score this reporting period.
Silver Cross also touted its other recent honors, including a place on the Fortune/IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals list and a 5-Star Rating by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The New Lenox hospital was one of only five hospitals in Illinois named to the Fortune/IBM Watson list.
“What a proud and historic moment for Silver Cross Hospital,” said Silver Cross President/CEO Ruth Colby, in the release. “To achieve this level of distinction is truly extraordinary and a testament to the dedication of our entire Silver Cross team of employees, physicians and volunteers. Despite the challenges of the past year, they never lost sight of what really matters: delivering an unrivaled experience to every patient every time.”
The hospital said in a news release this was the first time in its 125-year history its achieved a “triple crown” in the health care field. Silver Cross has earned 13-straight “A” grades from the Leapfrog Group, according to the release.
“It’s my pleasure to congratulate Silver Cross Hospital on these remarkable and unprecedented awards for excellence in patient safety and patient care,” said New Lenox Mayor Tim Baldermann in the release. “We’ve all seen over the last year just how important it is to have quality healthcare in our area and as the Mayor of this community, I couldn’t be more proud of Silver Cross. They’ve brought nationally recognized healthcare to New Lenox.”
