The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be taking public comments on the proposed extension of 143rd Street in Plainfield over the next month.
The agency will be accepting written and electronic comments starting Thursday until June 26, according to a news release.
Plainfield village officials have been planning for this major project which they’ve said will help alleviate truck traffic along Route 59 and the center of town. About $40 million in federal funds have already been committed to the project, Plainfield Mayor John Argoudelis said.
A village presentation from September of 2019 said the total estimated cost for the project is $59 million. The village says on its website construction on the extension is expected to begin next year.
Those wishing to submit comments on the project to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers can send written comments to the agency’s Chicago District, Attn: LRC-2018-00901, Julie Rimbault, at 231 S. LaSalle St., Suite 1500, Chicago, IL 60604. Electronic comments can be emailed to Julie.C.Rimbault@usace.army.mil.
The agency said comments will only be accepted with a full name, home address and email address, if available, by the close of the commenting period.
