Joliet OKs new plan for Cedar Creek

D.R. Horton plans to build 46 duplexes in unfinished subdivision along Route 53

New plans for Villas at Cedar Creek are moving ahead.

The Joliet City Council last week approved revised models for the duplex section of the Cedar Creek residential development, a subdivision that was unfinished when the housing boom of the early 2000s crashed.

Cedar Creek is located at Route 53 and Millsdale Road in the section of the city that has since seen a boom in warehouse and industrial development.

But national home builder D.R. Horton plans to build 46 duplexes in Villas at Cedar Creek, a section of the Cedar Creek development originally planned for duplexes.

D.R. Horton is altering the model plans for the duplexes from what was originally approved in 2006, which required new approvals from the city.

The City Council voted unanimously for the new plans, which were previously approved by the Plan Commission.

A city staff report noted there were no objections to the D.R. Horton models from the Homeowners Association Board of Villas at Cedar Creek.

Four duplexes had been built on the site with the 2006 plans.

The D.R. Horton duplexes with have interiors ranging from 1,601 square feet to 1,788 square feet. Three- to four-bedroom options will be available with 2.5 bath. Two-car garages will be standard features. Basements will be optional.

The D.R. Horton re-start of Villas at Cedar Creek would mark the second new home development in the area of Joliet along the Route 53 corridor in the last couple of years. Ryan Homes for more than a year has been building single-family homes at its Sunset Point subdivision, located at Pheasant Run Road near Route 53.
