The Joliet Fire Department will start the second phase of its annual hydrant testing program June 28, city officials announced.
Hydrant testing will be done between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. It will continue for about six weeks depending on weather, city officials said.
Testing areas will be:
• An area bounded on the north by Cleveland St., south by Interstate 80, east by the EJ&E tracks, and west by the Des Plaines River;
• An area bounded on the north by Black Road, south by Channahon Road, east by Infantry Drive and west by Interstate 55;
• An area bounded on the north by Walker Road, south by Jones Road, east by the EJ&E tracks and west by Arbeiter Road.
Precautions will be taken to reduce the possible impact of rusty water, city officials said. Joliet will provide a chemical that can be used to remove rust from clothes when used properly in a washing machine.
The chemical is available at any Joliet fire station. Those who don’t have transportation can call the fire department at 815-724-3500 or call the utilities department at 815-724-4220.
