Joliet mayor injured in fall at City Hall

Mayor Bob O’Dekirk was injured in a fall Monday when he slipped on ice outside City Hall.

O’Dekirk was taken by ambulance to a hospital after the incident, which occurred in the morning, City Manager James Capparelli said.

Capparelli said he could not comment on the extent of the mayor’s injuries.

But they did require putting off the mayor’s annual State of the City address to the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce & Industry, which was scheduled for Tuesday.

“Bob had hoped to be able to get through this and be able to do that,” Capparelli said of the speech. “He’s sincerely sorry that he won’t be able to give that address.”

The State of the City address will be held at another time. chamber Vice President Mike Paone said in an email.

The city did not issue any statement about the incident or what injuries the mayor sustained.
