Police officials do not suspect foul play in the death of a man who was found in a Joliet alley.
The Will County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Joshua Lee Cartright, 45, of Joliet. Cartwright was pronounced dead about 5:50 p.m. Monday, according to the coroner’s office.
An autopsy was performed Tuesday and the final cause and manner of death will be determined pending the review of police, autopsy and toxicological reports, coroner officials said.
The incident was reported on Monday by a neighborhood resident who found an unresponsive man in an alley in the 1500 block of North William Street, Joliet police Sgt. Dwayne English said.
“Officers and the Joliet Fire Department arrived and noted that the individual showed no signs of life,” English said.
The Will County Coroner’s Office pronounced the man dead at the scene, he said.
“Officers found items indicative of drug use near the individual. Foul play is not suspected,” English said.
English said the cause of the man’s death is known as of Tuesday afternoon.
“Officers found drug paraphernalia and an unknown substance at the scene,” English said.
He said the police reports did not indicate what the substance was.
