A 16-year-old squeezed off shots on North Eastern Avenue Saturday evening but failed to hit anything, police said.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired on Eastern near Benton Street shortly before 5:30 p.m., according to a statement released by the Joliet Police Department Monday morning.

The officers found spent shell casings on the scene but determined nothing had been struck by bullets, police said.

During the ensuing investigation, officers identified the 16-year-old as the shooter, police said, and arrested him at his home within a half hour of arriving on the scene.

“Officers recovered the handgun used in the shooting upon search of the residence,” police said.

The teen was transported to River Valley Juvenile Detention Center and booked on probable cause of aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, according to police.
