Lincoln-Way East’s Alex Stanwich appeared to being trying to revive the classic TV show”Home Run Derby” on Monday.
Stanwich, a Tennessee commit, walloped three home runs in pushing the Griffins to an 8-1 win over Marist. Andrew Bollman added two hits for East (2-0), and Zach Kwasny tossed four scoreless innings in earning the win.
Lockport 4, Oswego East 3: Lockport (5-0) scored all of its runs in the fifth inning as David Zaragoza kept the Wolves at bay most of the afternoon, striking out five in his four innings of work.
Griffin Brown and Joey Manzo each had two RBIs.
Providence 13, Joliet Central 0: The Celtics went on the attack early and carried it through the game in a five-inning triumph over the Steelmen in their season opener.
Brayden Garrigan had three hits to pace a 14-hit Providence attack, while three pitchers combined to limit Joliet Central to two hits.
Minooka 18, Coal City 0: Minooka scored nine runs in each of the first two innings as it rolled to an easy win.
Ivan Dahlberg drove in five runs to key the offense, while Nolan Zurawski also drove in four.
Hinsdale Central 11, Plainfield North 2: A five-run fourth inning blew this nonconference contest wide open as the Tigers fell to 0-4 on the season.
Plainfield Central 5, Downers Grove North 4: Caleb Coberley and Taylor Kujak each connected for two hits as the Wildcats (2-0) edged the Trojans.
Wilmington 7, Morris 5: The Wildcats pieced together two big innings, and that was enough to give them the nonconference win.
Cade McCubbin had three hits to key the Wilmington (2-0) attack. Morris (2-1) got two RBI from Aiden Hayse.
Joliet Catholic 15, Spring Valley Hall 0: T.J. Schlageter struck out eight and allowed one hit as the Hilltoppers cruised.
Luka Radicevich paced the offense with two hits and four RBIs.
Metea Valley 11, Bolingbrook 1: The Raiders dug a big early hole they couldn’t recover from as they dropped to 0-3 on the season.
Reed-Custer 11, Gardner-South Wilmington 2: Jake McPherson struck out seven over three innings, and Kyle Fodonski struck out five over the final four innings as the Comets’ pitching staff set the pace
McPherson and Cam Smith keyed the offense with three hits each.
Seneca 3, Serena 0: Matt Cruise struck out eight in a complete-game effort to lead the Fighting Irish (2-1) to victory.
Fieldcrest 10, Dwight 0: The Trojans mustered only five hits in a nonconference loss.
SOFTBALL
Lemont 1, Huntley 0: Lemont managed only two hits, but with Sage Mardjetko’s 16-strikeout performance it was able to collect a win in a battle of two of the top softball programs in the state.
Allison Pawlowicz and Frankie Rita had the only hits for Lemont (2-0), with Rita accounting for the only RBI.
Lincoln-Way Central 7, Providence 3: A relentless offensive attack allowed the Knights to collect a nonconference win.
Lucy Cameron, Kendall Pearson and Josephine Jager each had two hits for Lincoln-Way Central, and Lyndsey Grein drove in three while striking out nine in her five innings in the circle.
Joliet Catholic 13, Plainfield Central 3: The Angels had little trouble earning a win in their season-opening matchup.
Tricia Hogrefe hit her third home run of the season for Plainfield Central.
Reed-Custer 9, Gardner-South Wilmington 0: Addison Brown set the pace for the Comets as she struck out 13 and allowed only three hits.
Sylvia Crater and Mya Beard each connected for three hits for Reed-Custer (1-1).
Morris 15, Wilmington 4: Ella Davis was solid in the circle, allowing three hits and no earned runs.
She also helped her own cause with three doubles and three RBIs.
Romeoville 5, Argo 3: The Spartans pushed across two runs in the fifth inning to break free from a tie game and made it stand up for the win.
Caitlin Giancomo had three of Romeoville’s seven hits.
Coal City 10, Sandwich 0: Kaitlyn Jasper tossed a shutout and struck out five in the process.
Abbi Gagliardo connected for two hits, including a home run, for the Coalers (1-1).
Bolingbrook 15, Bremen 0: Tatiana Thomas tossed a four-inning no-hitter with 10 strikeouts as the Raiders breezed to victory.
GIRLS SOCCER
Reed-Custer 4, Wilmington 3: Abbie Rampa had two goals for the Wildcats as they fell short in an Illinois Central Eight matchup.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Plainfield North def. Lincoln-Way West, 25-20, 25-21: The Tigers picked up a solid win to open their season.
Brian Lynch had eight kills for the Warriors.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Lincoln-Way Central 26, Plainfield 4: The Knights breezed to a 2-0 record with a nonconference win.
