Ten area players received notice from the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association All-State teams that were released recently.
The organization selects 10-person first, second and third teams with additional players receiving special mention honors.
Lemont’s Nojus Indrusaitis was the only local player to receive a first-team selection in Class 3A.
Class 4A had the largest number of area players recognized. Bolingbrook’s Michael Osei-Bonsu was chosen to the second team, while Minooka’s Ricky Hill Jr. was placed on the third team. Special mention honorees were Plainfield Central’s Donovan Brown, Romeoville’s Troy Cicero, Bolingbrook’s Mekhi Cooper, Minooka’s Trevor Hudak, Joliet West’s Toby Onyekonwu and Lincoln-Way Central’s Jack Vegter.
In 2A, Seneca’s Zach Pfeifer earned a special mention, while Dwight’s Wyatt Thompson was the same in 1A.
PREP BASEBALL
Joliet Central 12, East Aurora 0: The Steelmen breezed to a victory in their season opener at Duly Health Care Field.
Zach Riley went four innings with 11 strikeouts for Joliet Central, while Gabe Dunne and Rafael Gutierrez each had two hits.
Morris 9, Bolingbrook 3: Morris got its season off on the right foot by beating the Raiders. Ryan Fischer picked up the win as Morris scored eight runs in the fifth inning.
PREP SOFTBALL
Bolingbrook 8, Plainfield East 2: The Raiders kicked off the season with a win over the Bengals.
Wilmington 15, Grant Park 0: The Wildcats coasted to a nonconference win to start the season.
GIRLS SOCCER
Morris 5, Reed-Custer 1: Morris had little trouble finding the back of the net in its season opener.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Joliet 4, Angelica 2: The Wolves got a strong pitching performance from Marcus Seguin as they picked up a win during their Texas trip.
JJC improved to 6-2 with the win.
