5 Things To Do in Sauk Valley to break that cabin fever

Do a good deed or two. Check out some masterful ice sculptures. Or solve a whodunit. Or just break out for a road trip to beat back the cabin fever. There’s things to do in the Sauk Valley this weekend.

1 Are you a master of facts? A scholastic bowl wannabe? Want to help support the Home of Hope, a support center for those with cancer and their families? Team and individual slots available to take part in Virtual Trivia Night, 7 p.m. Friday. Register at homeofhopeonline.org.

2 Hungry and willing dine out for a good cause? Two groups are having benefit breakfasts on Sunday. The Sauk Valley group of Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities will have an eggs, sausage and pancake breakfast fundraiser, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Rock Falls Community Center, 601 W. 10th St., Rock Falls. Tickets are $10, but 7 and younger eat free. Meanwhile, Dixon Knights of Columbus 690 will have an all-you-can-eat breakfast 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the Kay Cee Hall, 506 W. 3rd Street in Dixon. On the menu: eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy and pancakes along with coffee, milk and orange juice. A goodwill donation will go toward the Knights Catholic Scholarship Fund.

3 The 36th Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition started Wednesday and runs through Saturday at Sinnissippi Park in Rockford. The award ceremony is 1 p.m., with the winner getting the right to compete in the 2023 national event. The sculptures can be viewed daily from sunrise to 10:30 p.m.

4 Aspiring sleuths and lovers of mysteries are invited to take part in the Nancy Drew Mystery Party, 5:30 p.m. Thursday and Mount Carroll District Library. Participants are encouraged to come in costume, attired as their favorite detective. Find the clues hidden around the library. There will be tea and treats afterward. For all ages. 5 Bitter cold and snow left you with Cabin Fever. Beat it at the Cabin Fever Market, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Cypress House, 718 10th Ave., Rochelle. Market bouquets, seasonal produce, microgreens, sweets, and barbecue. Followup events will be Feb. 26 and March 26.
