Two arrested in murder of Freeport man whose body was found near Savanna

SAVANNA – The Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Department has arrested two people in the death of a Freeport man whose body was found in the Mississippi River on March 10.

Levi TJ Meyer, 35, of Freeport, is charged in Jo Daviess County Court with first-degree murder, and Danielle K. Heidenreich, 39, of Savanna, is charged with concealment of the homicidal death of her husband, Keith A. Heidenreich Jr., 46, of Freeport, according to a news release from State’s Attorney Christopher Allendorf and Sheriff Kevin Turner.

Meyer beat Keith Heidenreich to death March 9 at the home Meyer shares with Danielle Heidenreich in Hanover, then they took his body to Miller’s Boat Landing, 6898 Marina Road, about 4 miles north of Savanna off state Route 84 at the northern entrance to Palisades State Park, and dumped it in the river, the release said.

First-degree murder carries 20 years to life in prison; concealment of a homicidal death carries 2 to 5 years.

Meyer is in Jo Daviess County jail on $1 million bond; Heidenreich’s bond is $250,000.

The Northwest Illinois Critical Incident Response Major Case Team, the Jo Daviess County state’s attorney and sheriff, the Carroll County state’s attorney and sheriff, the Hanover, Galena, Stockton, Savanna and Illinois State police and the Carroll and Winnebago County coroners are investigating.
