Health departments report 5 COVID-related deaths, 141 new cases in Sauk Valley Monday

Coronavirus cases in the Sauk Valley

The Whiteside County Health Department Monday announced eight new cases of COVID-19 as well as 12 recoveries. The new cases involved one person younger that 20, two in their 20s, two in their 30s, and one each in her 40s, 50s and 80+.

Whiteside County had 196 cases the week of Jan. 4-10, down from the 223 cases the previous week. The 60-69, 70-79 and 80+ age groups all saw slight increases, while all other age groups saw decreases.

For the period Dec. 28-Jan. 10, Whiteside County had 419 cases compared to 452 for the period Dec. 14-27.

Lee County has had 41 new cases since Friday, seven of which are from Dixon Correctional Center. The new cases within the community involve three children 12 and younger, one teen, five people in their 20s, one in their 30s, seven in their 40s, nine in their 50s, six in their 60s, and one each in their 80s an 90s.

Ogle County announced four COVID-related deaths on Monday, as well as 70 new cases.

Carroll County announced one COVID-related death of a person in his or her 70s, and 22 new cases since Friday involving eight people in their 20s, eight in their 30s, two in their 40s, two in their 60s, and one each in their 70s and 80s.

Whiteside County has had 5,225 cases, 4,650 recoveries and 133 deaths. Lee County has had 2,682 cases and 53 deaths. Ogle County has had 4,383 cases, 3,642 recoveries and 59 deaths. Carroll County has had 1,379 cases, 1,327 recoveries and 31 deaths.

The North region (Boone, Carroll, DeKalb, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside and Winnebago counties) has seen 11 consecutive days under the 12% positivity rate. The region’s positivity rate decreased to 9.4%. Currently, 27.6% of medical/surgical beds are available and 23.1% of ICU beds.

The region has 11 consecutive days above the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and 11 consecutive days above the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.

Within this region, DeKalb County’s positivity rate decreased to 12.3%, Lee County’s rate decreased to 2.5%, Ogle County’s decreased to 11.1%, and Whiteside County’s rate decreased to 8.7%.

Finally, within this region, there are 50 available, staffed ICU beds out of 179 total, and 261 ventilators out of 343 available.

Illinois announced 4,776 cases and 53 deaths Monday. The state has seen 1,033,526 cases and 17,627 deaths.

Sterling has had 16,111 tests and 1,918 cases. Rock Falls has had 7,756 tests and 1,125 cases. Dixon has had 29,273 tests and 1,947 cases. Rochelle has had 9,411 tests and 1,421 cases.
