Woman arrested on DUI charge after crash that snapped utility pole in half near Prairie Grove

Because of the crash, utility power lines were hanging low across Barreville Road, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said.

An 18-year-old Waukegan woman was arrested after police said she crashed her car into a utility pole, snapping it in half near Prairie Grove.

Stephanie Moino-Guzman was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol, not having a valid driver’s license and failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident, McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Kevin Byrnes said.

The vehicle was westbound on Route 176 approaching Barreville Road about 3 a.m. Sunday when the vehicle left the roadway for an unknown reason, Byrnes said.

Because of the crash, utility power lines were hanging low across Barreville, Byrnes said. Barreville Road was closed for about six hours while ComEd worked to clear the power lines.

A passenger, also 18, was taken to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
