High school sports roundup for Monday, April 19

Alexis Pupillo homered twice and went 3 for 3 with four RBIs, and Crystal Lake South’s softball team defeated host Prairie Ridge, 16-1, on Monday.

South received two hits apiece from winning pitcher Kennedy Grippo, Brooke Kuffel (three RBI) and Amelia Cervantes. Gabby Toussaint had a double.

Julia Vosburg doubled and scored for Prairie Ridge.

Huntley 10, Dundee-Crown 0: At Huntley, Bri Bower pitched a one-hitter, striking out 14 and walking one, and also went 2 for 2 at the plate with a homer and three RBIs as the Red Raiders opened FVC play with a five-inning win.

Kassie Mitchell was 3 for 3 with two RBIs and two stolen bases for Huntley (1-3), and Maddy Smith finished 2 for 3 with a double.

Jacobs 9, Crystal Lake Central 2: At Algonquin, Sarah Lynch struck out 10, walked two and allowed four hits in a complete-game effort for the Golden Eagles.

Jacobs was paced offensively by Abbey Nesnidal (3 for 4, triple, RBI), Caitlin Cook (2 for 4, two doubles, two RBIs) and Arya Patel (3 for 3, two RBIs).

Central’s Giada Motto had two hits, including a solo homer.

Guilford 19, Woodstock 13: At Woodstock, Kiley Ryan had four hits, including a grand slam, for the Blue Streaks, who lost the lead late in the fifth inning of the nonconference game.

Ryan (4 for 5) also doubled twice and singled. Grace Ribbie had a two-run single.

McHenry 12, Hampshire 2: At Hampshire, Kyra Lard went 3 for 4 with a homer and four RBI, Lauren Sena was 3 for 4 with triple, and Nevayah Munoz was 3 for 3 with three RBIs to lead a 15-hit attack as the Warriors won in five innings.

Abby Geris added a pair of hits, including a double, and knocked in two runs in the win.

BASEBALL

Richmond-Burton 14, Round Lake 2: At Richmond, Hayden Christiansen finished a single shy of the cycle, going 3 for 3 with a double, triple and homer as the Rockets improved to 4-0.

Jason Miller was 3 for 3 with a double and two RBI. Joseph Mrowiec (2-0) struck out nine, walked three and allowed three hits and two runs.

Crystal Lake Central 13, Woodstock 0: At Crystal Lake, the Tigers cruised in the nonconference game.

Woodstock North 11, Hampshire 7: At Hampshire, the Thunder received 3-for-5 efforts from Alex Dodge and Felipe DeAvila (triple, two RBIs).

Jared Spung was 2 for 3 with a triple and four RBI for Norh, and Luke Udelhofen went 1 for 2 with two RBIs.

Hampshire received two hits apiece from Daniel Rodriguez (triple, three RBIs), Austin Leonard and Evan Spenk (triple).

McHenry 10, Harlem 3: At Harlem, the Warriors received two hits apiece from winning pitcher Kyle Kaempf (double, RBI) and Richard Powell (triple, two RBIs).

Cooper Cohn had a double and an RBI for McHenry (3-3). Kaempf allowed one hit and one run in four innings.

Crystal Lake South 13, Johnsburg 3: At Crystal Lake, the Gators drew eight walks and received two RBIs apiece from Nathaneal Freez (double) and Evan Weinandy (single).

Winning pitcher Ryan Skwarek struck out nine, allowing one hit and two earned runs, in four innings.

Dundee-Crown 10, Marengo 5: At Carpentersville, the Chargers won the nonconference game, receiving two hits apiece from Trent Minaglia (RBI), Justin Colon (triple, RBI), Dylan Reilly and Justin Parchomenko (three RBIs).

Marengo got two hits apiece from Christian Graves (two doubles, two RBIs) and Ty Sievpien.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Crystal Lake South 2, Dundee-Crown 0: At Crystal Lake, Sam Wesoly had 11 kills, Emma Stowasser dished out 17 assists, and the Gators won the FVC Tournament match, 25-22, 25-22.

South (5-5) also received contributions from Alyssa Zagroba (seven digs), one ace) and Ashley Ciezadlo (four kills, three blocks, three digs). Wesoly added two blocks, five digs and one ace. Stowasser had one ace and one block.

Richmond-Burton 2, Johnsburg 0: At Richmond, the Rockets captured a 25-11, 25-16 decision in Kishwaukee River Conference action.

Maggie Uhwat delivered eight kills and two aces for Richmond-Burton (11-4, 7-2). Jordyn Duncan added seven kills and five aces, Kaitlyn Lehecka notched five digs, and Jesse Klicker tallied 15 assists, four aces and seven digs.

Johnsburg was led by Emmy Wizcub (three kills), Kate Linkletter (11 digs) and Maddie Huhn (10 digs).

Marengo 2, Harvard 0: At Harvard, the Indians earned a 25-16, 25-12 victory in KRC action.

Marengo was paced by Alexis Kunde (14 digs, four kills, one ace), Lilly Johnson (six digs, three Kills, nine assists), Isabella Simonini (six kills, four digs), Jenna Turner (16 digs), Abby Rohe (two aces, one dig, five kills) and Mia Lulinski (four digs).

Harvard (1-9, 1-8) received two kills and an ace from Michaela Froehlich. Alex Cooke had 12 digs, while Abby Perkins and Montana Brincks each had six. Cooke dished out seven assists.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Bartlett 2, Huntley 0: At Bartlett, the Red Raiders dropped a 25-14, 25-15 decision in nonconference action.

GIRLS SOCCER

Grant, Harvard 1: At Fox Lake, Alexia Posada scored the Hornets’ lone goal on a penalty kick.

Yasmine Estrada made 10 saves in goal for Harvard.

Woodstock 0, McHenry 0: At McHenry, the nonconference match ended in a draw.

Woodstock (1-0-1) got 12 saves from keeper Val Sardelli.

Richmond-Burton 3, Antioch 3: At Richmond, Margaret Slove scored late in the second half off an assist from Jordan Otto as the host Rockets salvaged a draw in the nonconference match, after squandering a pair of one-goal leads.

Reese Frericks and Brianna Maldonado also scored for R-B. Otto had two assists, and Madi Havlicek’s corner kick set up Maldonado’s strike. Rockets freshman goalkeeper Taylor Labay made seven saves.

SUNDAY’S RESULT

Marian Central 4, Waukegan 0: At Olympic Park in Schaumburg, Kelsi McThenia had a goal and two assists as the Hurricanes won the Pepsico Showdown with their second shutout in as many games.

Marian Central (2-0) also received goals from Sofia Cazares, Bethany Noonan and Gabriella Farraj (free kick). Cazares also had an assist. Elizabeth Young and Anna Lingle (two saves) combined for the shutout.

BOYS TENNIS

Grayslake Central 5, Crystal Lake Central 2: At Grayslake, the Tigers (1-1) got wins from Milan Patel (No. 1 singles) and Xander Helvie/Isaac Cieslak (No. 1 doubles) in their nonconference loss.

Grayslake North 6, McHenry 1: At McHenry, the Warriors’ lone win came at No. 3 singles from Gordy Wechselberger, who prevailed in three sets.
