Jonathan Carreno and Dylan Gonzalez scored goals, Stephan Turskey posted a clean sheet, and Woodstock’s boys soccer team shut out host Woodstock North, 2-0, on Monday to clinch its second Kishwaukee River Conference championship in a row.
Carreno had the Blue Streaks (10-0-2, 9-0) up, 1-0, at halftime. Gonzalez added an insurance goal off an assist from Oscar Escorza. Turskey had six saves in net.
Marian Central 5, Joliet Catholic 0: At Joliet, Mateo Raso had a hat trick and an assist, Dawson Yegge earned the shutout in net, and the Hurricanes won their third game in a row in an East Suburban Catholic Conference match.
Chris Ghita had the other two goals for the Hurricanes (4-3-1, 3-3), who led, 3-0, at halftime. Matt Garrelts, Thomas Peyton, Nate Iafigliola and Jacob Bonnet contributed assists. Yegge made eight saves and got defensive help from Ghita, Garrelts, Derek Emmert, Jeremy Kleberg, Bonnet, Brendon Stoll and Matt Gruebnau, coach Art Dixon said.
Richmond-Burton 5, Johnsburg 0: At Richmond, Tristan Rockwell scored a goal in each half for the Rockets in the KRC match.
Maddox Meyer also scored in the opening half. Ethan Demers and Josue Campos had goals as well, and Armando Garcia had three assists. Logan Knott made three saves in earning the shutout.
Harvard 3, Marengo 2 (PKs): At Harvard, the KRC match was tied, 2-2, at the end of regulation, before the Hornets prevailed in penalty kicks.
Oscar Hernandez and Eric Aquino (Juan Silva assist) scored in the second half for Harvard. Manny Mercado, Roger Hernandez and Brayan Esquivel tallied for the Hornets in PKs, while keeper Aldo Popoca made two saves to secure the victory.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Woodstock North 2, Johnsburg 1: At Johnsburg, despite learning on Sunday night that they would be without standouts Kylie Schulze and Kaitlyn Wickersheim due to contact tracing in school, the Thunder responded to the adversity with a 25-18, 25-27, 25-10 win to stay perfect in the KRC.
Freshman Dani Hansen made her varsity debut for Woodstock North (8-2, 7-0) with no opportunity to practice with the team and dished out 23 assists. Faith Eddy (eight kills, seven aces, two blocks), Alyssa Wickersheim (nine kills, four digs, one ace) and Madison Miller (10 digs, four aces) anchored the effort. Avery Crabill (eight digs, two aces, two kills), Kamryn Butenschoen (three kills, three aces, two blocks) and Cadence Klasek (two kills, two blocks) also contributed to the win.
For Johnsburg, Delaney Stern had 17 assists, seven service points and eight digs. Allie Burke had nine kills, and Kate Linkletter tallied 10 digs, five kills and 12 service points.
Marian Catholic 2, Marian Central 0: At Woodstock, the Hurricanes dropped a 25-15, 25-22 decision in ESCC action.
Valle Leggett had four kills, two blocks and three digs for Marian Central. Gigi Kramer, Grace Holian and Jenna Golembiewski each had three kills.
Huntley 2, Prairie Ridge 0: At Huntley, the Raiders won the Fox Valley Conference match, 25-20, 25-19.
Prairie Ridge (2-6, 2-5) received four kills from Kaylin Mitchell, 10 assists and five digs from Sammy Johnson, two blocks from Haylee Yelle. Mitchell and Johnson each had an ace, as well.
Richmond-Burton 2, Marengo 1: At Richmond, Maggie Uhwat pounded 16 kills as the Rockets pulled out a 25-23, 23-25, 26-24 win in a KRC thriller.
Richmond-Burton (9-3, 5-2) also received seven kills and eight digs from Jordyn Duncan, while Jesse Klicker collected 22 digs and 26 assists. Reese Frericks (14 digs) and Kaitlynn Lehecka (six kills, 14 digs) also contributed big for the Rockets.
Alexis Kunde rang up eight kills, three aces, six digs, two assists and one block for Marengo. The Indians’ other contributors included Lilly Johnson (18 assists, four digs, two kills), Isabella Simonini (six kills, three assists, three blocks), Michaela Almeida (nine digs, two kills, three assists), Alexa Stallings (four digs, four assists), Gianna Almeida (two kills, four blocks), Mia Lulinski (four kills) and Allie Brackmann (one dig, one assist).
Jacobs 2, Dundee-Crown 1: At Algonquin, Maggie Wallenberger had 15 kills and two aces, Ireland Van Stone tallied 13 kills, seven digs and two aces, and the Golden Eagles prevailed 25-21, 12-25, 25-18 in FVC action.
Rachel Kaczorowski dished out 30 assists for Jacobs, whose other contributors included Meredith Giustino (20 digs), Kate Wilson (three aces, seven digs) and Jaclyn Poirier (five kills).
Cary-Grove 2, Hampshire 0: At Cary, the Trojans won, 25-17, 27-25, in FVC action.
Hampshire dropped to 4-5 and 2-5 in the FVC.
JUNIOR COLLEGE BASEBALL
McHenry County 12-8, Waubonsee 3-1: At Sugar Grove, the visiting Scots hit the 20-win mark, winning 12-3 and 8-1 in a doubleheader sweep.
In Game 1, Nick Finley was 4-for-4 with a homer and two doubles. AJ Henkle went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Jack Hines (three RBI), Dymitri Kanellakis, and Noah Wenger all went 2-for-4. Nevin Wall struck out six in earning the win.
In Game 2, Miller Wallace had a two-run double, and AJ Henkle went 3-for-5, as MCC improved to 20-4. Luke Uhwat pitched five scoreless innngs for the win.
