DIY Halloween costumes for dogs

Are you looking forward to a hauntingly good time this Halloween?

Don’t forget to include your canine friends in the festivities. Here are some pawsitively amazing DIY dog costume ideas your pet can wear while out trick-or-treating:

1. Ballerina

Your furry friend can be pretty in pink as a ballerina. If you’re handy, consider making your pet’s tutu skirt out of tulle and elastic by following an online tutorial.

2. Flower

With a little sewing, you can turn your four-legged friend into a flower. Just cut some petals out of felt and attach them to an elastic band. You will have to measure your pet’s head to determine how many petals are needed. If you aren’t as handy with the needle and thread, you can glue fabric or cardboard petals to a dog collar.

3. Beanie Baby

Print an image of the Beanie Babies “TY” tag, cut it out using scissors, punch a hole in the corner, and pull string through the hole. Then attach it to your pet’s collar or harness.

4. Executive

Your dog can be CEO for the day with a dapper necktie. Find a dog necktie pattern online and copy it onto a piece of felt. Then use a glue gun to attach it to a dog collar.

5. Shark

Create a fin out of cardboard and glue it to a pet harness.

Keep in mind: the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals recommends not putting your dog in a costume unless you know he or she loves it. Additionally, ASPCA urges pet owners to make sure costumes do not limit your furry friend’s movement, sight, ability to breathe, or bark.
