History book sale, lecture in Glen Ellyn to focus on Civil War

The Salt Creek Civil War Round Table Book Sale will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Glen Ellyn History Center, 800 N. Main St., followed by a program on Chicago’s memory of the Civil War.

Come find interesting historical books at a great value, book sale organizers stated in a news release. The annual sale raises funds for Civil War battlefield preservation.

Immediately after the sale, noted Civil War historian, author and consultant Robert I. Girardi will present a program about Chicago and its relationship with the Civil War. The 2 p.m. lecture is about the city’s portrayal of the Civil War in its public art, parks and cemeteries, and how the memory and significance of events has changed over time.

Refreshments will be served at the free program. For information, contact the Glen Ellyn Historical Society at 630-469-1867 or www.gehs.org.
