Drugs involved in fatal Berwyn shooting: police

Berwyn Police said drugs were involved in a shooting last weekend that left one dead and two injured.

“This is a tragic incident that is directly related to the usage, possession and distribution of narcotics and it should be noted that the police were not called until after this tragedy occurred,” said a statement from the Berwyn Police Department.

The incident occurred in an apartment in the 2100 block of S. Highland Avenue on Sunday, Aug. 8 where police said multiple people were partying, drinking, smoking marijuana and using cocaine.

Police said witness recounted how Alejandro Gonzalez, 18, became disorientated and shot at an individual multiple times in the torso. A second individual attempted to disarm Gonzalez and in the struggle the gun fired and shot Gonzalez. Police said this shot killed Gonzalez, who was in the country illegally.

Additionally, police said during the investigation they recovered evidence of distribution of narcotics and controlled substances.
