A retired Oak Brook fire chief has been charged with public indecency, accused of exposing himself within sight of students of Glenbard West High School in Glen Ellyn.
James Bodony, 71, of the 200 block of Bryant Avenue, Glen Ellyn, was arrested on Sept. 7, according to DuPage County court records. He is free on bail.
He faces one count of felony public indecency -- lewd exhibition near school grounds, according to the complaint.
The complaint alleges that about 11 a.m. Sept. 3, Bodony was exposing himself while standing in the open doorway of a house within 500 feet of the school, and a student saw him.
Bodony worked for Oak Brook for 37 years, retiring as chief in 2009. He also served with the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company for more than 40 years, including as chief from 2013 to 2016. He resigned from the Glen Ellyn company Monday, according to a news release from the company.
“We have policies related to personal conduct and procedures to handle complaints in these matters,” the news release from Chief Chris Clark stated. “We have conducted an internal review and we are not aware of any prior acts or complaints regarding his conduct with the fire company.”
