Boys Basketball: Fenwick’s Bryce Hopkins named unanimous AP First Team All-State

Fenwick senior Bryce Hopkins, the Suburban Life Player of the Year, was named unanimous Class 3A First Team All-State by the Associated Press in voting released Thursday.

Hopkins, a Kentucky recruit, was the only player among Class 3A and Class 4A players named on every ballot.

Joining Hopkins on the Class 3A First Team is DePaul Prep’s Ty Johnson, Kenwood’s JJ Taylor, Oak Forest’s Robbie Avila and Niles Notre Dame’s Louis Lesmond. The Second Team is Hillcrest’s Julius Rollins, Effingham’s Parker Wolfe, Niles Notre Dame’s Troy D’Amico, Danville’s Tevin Smith, Springfield Lanphier’s KJ Debrick and Peoria Notre Dame’s Noah Reynolds.

The Class 4A First Team is made up of Rolling Meadows’ Max Christie, Whitney Young’s AJ Casey, Simeon’s Isaiah Barnes, Evanston’s Blake Peters and Buffalo Grove’s Kam Craft. The Class 4A Second Team is Thornton’s Brandon Hall, Glenbrook South’s Nick Martinelli, Mundelein’s Conor Enright, Edwardsville’s Brennan Weller and Waubonsie Valley’s Ben Schwieger.

Glenbard West junior Braden Huff and Downers Grove North senior Jack Mielke also were named Class 4A honorable mention.

Timothy Christian junior Ben VanderWal and senior Josh Harris were named Class 2A honorable mention.
