United Way’s 2-1-1 provides access to local resources

United Way of Grundy County launched the 2-1-1 service for Grundy County in August 2021 to help streamline access to health and human services that are available in our communities.

2-1-1 is an easy to remember telephone number and is available 24-hours a day, 7-days a week; everyday, including holidays. 2-1-1 provides information and referral services; connecting residents to a wide variety of human service programs that are available in our communities.

In Grundy County, just dial 2-1-1 to speak with a live person who will assist you in getting connected with local resources such as: basic human needs, food, shelter, counseling, healthcare, domestic violence, mental health, rent/mortgage and utility assistance, child care, legal assistance, substance abuse, employment, support groups, transportation and services for specialized populations such as veterans, the elderly and people with disabilities.

A 2-1-1′s crisis response includes suicide assessment and intervention, as well as assistance for those in need from disaster. All calls are free, anonymous and confidential. Translation services are available for more than 150 languages.

Connecting with 2-1-1 is available by texting your zip code to TXT211, then the type of service needed. During normal business hours, text inquiries are responded to by a live person, who will assist those looking for resources.

In addition, the database of resources available in Grundy County can be accessed by searching online at findhelp211.org. Simply enter your zip code and click on the corresponding category for the program or service needed. There are advanced search options to narrow the search to find the best match. Should a service not be available to meets your needs in Grundy County, the search criteria can be expanded to include services available in neighboring communities.
