Payment drop box to be placed at Kane Circuit Clerk Office

Those with outstanding fees can drop off payments any time

Kane County Board member Theresa Barreiro, D-Aurora, will announce her candidacy for Kane County Circuit Clerk after the Kane County Board meeting at 11:30 a.m. July 9, in front of the Kane County Government Center, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva, Building A.

ST. CHARLES – The Kane County Circuit Clerk’s office, in conjunction with the County Clerk’s office, are offering another way for individuals with outstanding fees and fines to resolve them, officials announced in a news release.

Similar to the Treasurer’s property tax drop box and the ballot box that the County Clerk’s office provides for voting, a drop box will be used to receive court-ordered payments.

According to the news release, officials at the Circuit Clerk’s office realize the struggles that the public have been experiencing during this pandemic.

Recently most of the courts have been zoom courtrooms.

Previously when an individual went to court and had an outstanding balance, they could take care of it in person.

Now, they have to make an extra trip to the Circuit Clerk’s office to clear their balance if they aren’t paying using online services.

The Circuit Clerk’s office continues to strive at innovative ways to address issues like this and one way is to work with other county offices, the release stated.

This drop box is similar to those used for their ballot boxes for early voting and are secure and tamper-proof. However, no cash should be placed in the box for additional safety reasons.

Circuit Clerk Theresa Barreiro said that the drop box will be placed in front of the office at 540 S. Randall Road, St. Charles.

The idea is that someone will be able to drop off their payment either during offices hours or after.

“We are doing our part in assisting those that can’t get to our office during normal business hours due to job or transportation barriers,” Barreiro stated in the release. “The drop box will be monitored by security cameras.”
