Dangerous travel, power outages possible in Kane County Monday as winter storm hits

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Kane County and most of Northern Illinois effective from 1 p.m. today until noon tomorrow. Snow accumulations between 4 and 8 inches are expected, with the highest amounts west of Kane County.

Drivers should be prepared for dangerous road conditions tonight as steady snow blankets the area. Wind gusts up to 35 mph could lead to blowing snow and low visibility. Some power outages are possible from heavy snow and gusty winds. Some areas could get freezing rain mixing in with snow, mainly south of I-88. Drivers are advised to carry a flashlight, food and water in their cars in case of an emergency.
