The former Valley Medical Inn at 2340 Dean St. in St. Charles has been given the green light to become an assisted living center.
At the Dec. 14 St. Charles City Council meeting, aldermen unanimously approved a special use application to amend the existing Valley Ambulatory Surgery Center planned use development to permit an assisted living center. The property, which is located north of the Randallwood office center, previously housed the Valley Medical Inn, a post-surgical recovery center connected to the Valley Ambulatory Surgery Center. However, it has been vacant for several years.
Prior to the City Council’s action, the PUD had only allowed for a surgery center or medical use. But the underlying office research zoning permits assisted living facilities.
No changes to the site or building’s exterior are being proposed. As city staff noted, the state requires that at least 80% of the residents in an assisted living facility must be 55 years of age or older.
